Deciding to surrender your pet can be very emotional and difficult for both you and your pet. It is important to consider your other options before surrendering your pet to a shelter. Please contact us to discuss placement options and our surrender procedure. We accept surrenders Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Be aware that by surrendering an animal, owners forfeit all rights, title and interest in the animal to the SPCA, Inc. On average, we take in over 10,000 animals per year and are unable to accept calls or release information regarding the final disposition of animals. We cannot guarantee placement or holding for any specific amount of time.
If you decide to surrender your pet, the SPCA staff will need the medical and behavior history of the animal. Owners should allow time to fill out a questionnaire to detail these items to help us in future placement of your pet with an ideal home. We request a $25 intake fee for surrendering an animal, and $10 for each additional animal. Any additional donation is appreciated as the actual expense to prepare and place a single animal into a new home often adds up to hundreds of dollars.
Please bring the following items with you when surrendering your pet:
-
Veterinary records
-
Pet medications
-
Your photo identification
